Your GP cannot say no.

2.6 million adults in England are estimated to have ADHD. The average NHS wait is over 2 years. Section 75 of the NHS Act 2006 gives you the right to be seen sooner - but most people are never told.

Average NHS Wait
2+ Years

Right to Choose cuts that to months.

61% of adults on NHS ADHD waiting lists have been waiting over a year. In some areas, waits reach 5-7 years. Right to Choose providers like Psychiatry-UK typically assess within 18-26 weeks - funded by the NHS.

Undiagnosed Adults
Millions

Most adults with ADHD don't know they have it.

ADHD prescriptions in England have risen over 150% since 2015. Adult diagnoses increased 15% between 2020 and 2023. This isn't a trend - it's a backlog of people who were missed as children finally getting answers.

Your Legal Right
Section 75

The law your GP probably won't mention.

The NHS Act 2006 gives every patient in England the right to choose their healthcare provider. For ADHD, this means you can request a referral to an approved provider instead of joining a multi-year NHS queue. GPs must process the referral - it is not discretionary.

Workplace Protection
Equality Act

ADHD is a protected disability. Your employer must make adjustments.

Under the Equality Act 2010, ADHD qualifies as a disability if it has a substantial, long-term effect on daily activities. Your employer has a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments - flexible hours, quieter workspace, written instructions. You don't need to struggle in silence.

The wait, in numbers

The average NHS ADHD assessment wait is over 2 years. In some areas, it stretches to 5-7 years.

Right to Choose providers typically assess within 18-26 weeks - funded by the NHS, not out of pocket.

Same assessment. Same funding. A fraction of the wait.

Why This Exists

Most people don't get stuck because the information doesn't exist. They get stuck because it's scattered across NHS pages, legislation, provider websites and online forums.

My ADHD Path brings it all together, in plain English, so you can understand your options and take the next step with confidence.

Not generic FAQs. Not US sites translated badly. Not sales pages for private providers. Clear, practical, no-nonsense ADHD guidance built specifically for the UK.

Not sure where to start?

Everyone's situation is different. You might be wondering for the first time, stuck on an NHS waiting list, or trying to work out what comes after a diagnosis.

Wherever you are, we'll help you understand your next step.
